No one should die or be injured due to undiagnosed type 1 diabetes. Unfortunately that is not currently the case.
Type 1 diabetes often is triggered by another illness, such as a virus. Even if a person is seen by a medical professional for a virus or infection blood sugar is not usually measured, because blood sugar screening is not currently standard of care.
Who needs to check their blood sugar? Everyone! Of course if you are a diabetic you understand the importance of blood sugar monitoring.
The National Diabetes Education Foundation has created a new initiative starting with the 2023 Diabetes Awareness Month.
People need to be aware of the symptoms and more importantly be aware of when a quick, life-saving test should be performed. The NDEF wants to make sure that blood sugar testing kits are easily accessible to ALL people.
